Did Wizkid Lie About Doing Free Shows?

Wizkid continues to break boundaries and set standards with his music. In a quest to promote his latest single “Come Closer” he was in an interview with DJ Semtex, a presenter for BBC Radio 1Xtra digital radio station.
During the chat, Wizkid gave insights on evolving as an artist, inspirations behind his hit song “Ojuelegba“, experiences as a young father, music influences, his upcoming album “Sounds from the other side“, as well as other things.

Seeing Wizkid interact and clearly articulate his thoughts intelligently over the subject matters shows his growth as an artist and the maturity in handling interviews. You could tell the interviewer enjoyed every bit of the conversation as he gets inside scoop from the "come closer" crooner.

Amidst the applause and praises, many have expressed their displeasure at the singer for stating he sometimes conducts free shows and other times at very little cost. Some felt this was a blatant lie in trying to paint a perfect picture of how he loves and cherishes his Nigerian fans. In Wizkid words:

"Big shout to my Naija people. I love them too much. That’s why I do a lot back home. Sometimes I do free shows. I just pull up and say ‘Hey, Wizkid, free show.’ Sometimes I charge like a dollar for a show, sometimes I take like N1000, sometimes when I do shows at the Fela shrine, back with Femi (Kuti) and all that."

This was stated 9min through the video.

Do you think the singer lied? Or are people making a fuss out of nothing? Are you aware of some of his free shows in the past?

However this doesn’t take away the fact that Wizkid is a very super talented artist and he’s taking the global music scene by storm.
